High School Football is back! There were lots of great games, and individual performances in the first week of action.
The biggest shocker was no doubt Schaumburg defeating 2-time defending 8A state champ Maine South 29-17. Shepard Little, who did not play last season, led the Saxons with 248 yards on the ground and a touchdown, to end the Red Hawks 28-game winning streak.
In the sportstownchicago.com game of the week, Joliet Catholic, led by Breshion Tucker, who also did not play on the football gridiron last year, threw 2 touchdown passes, and ran for 54 yards. The Hilltoppers defeated the Broncos of Montini 21-7, in a 5A championship game rematch.
Other upsets included Morgan Park defeating Providence 16-14, and Simeon winning 47-41 over Mt. Carmel. Simeon's Robert Gregory emassed 528 yards of total offense (282 passing; 246 rushing) earning himself the sportstownchicago.com and Aurora Roundhouse player of the week for week 1 in high school football
